Multifractal Analyses on Normalized Difference Vegetation Index Series on Pastures

Normalized Difference Vegetation index (NDVI) is commonly used to monitor vegetation network dynamics. In this paper, we use multifractal analyses to study NDVI data from two different pasture plots in south-eastern Spain. Multifractal detrended fluctuation analyses, Mann-Kendall test and Hurst test are used to explore the multifractal character of NDVI time series. Results suggest a strong multifractal character influence by the different land uses found among our areas of study. An antipersistent character is found in all areas but they seem to be positively linked to more structured ecosystem provided by pastoral uses as opposed to agricultural landscape, where less antipersistent and multifractal character are shown. The research is therefore useful for policy makers to manage rural areas where land uses such as grazing and agriculture are intertwined.
