The rapid digitization of industries and the exponential growth of data have led to an increased focus on sustainable data management practices. While organizations strive to minimize their environmental footprint through energy-efficient data centers and responsible disposal of electronic waste, they often overlook the cybersecurity challenges inherent in sustainable data management. This paper aims to highlight the intersection of cybersecurity and environmental responsibility, focusing on the unique threats and vulnerabilities faced by organizations seeking to manage data sustainably. One of the primary challenges in sustainable data management is ensuring the security and integrity of data throughout its lifecycle. From collection and storage to processing and disposal, data is vulnerable to a variety of cyber threats, including unauthorized access, data breaches, and malicious attacks. These threats not only compromise the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data but also pose risks to the environment through potential data loss or manipulation. Moreover, the proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and connected infrastructure in sustainable initiatives introduces additional cybersecurity risks. These devices, often deployed in energy management systems, smart grids, and environmental monitoring networks, are susceptible to exploitation by malicious actors seeking to disrupt operations or gain unauthorized access to sensitive data.
