Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the stress experiences and coping mechanisms of the Public School Elementary Teachers of Tagudin District during COVID-19 Pandemic. It investigates the significant relationship between profile and level of stress; profile and level of coping mechanisms; and level of stress and level of coping mechanisms. A structured questionnaire was used to gather data from 202 respondents. The results showed that the public school elementary teachers represent a variety of profile variables. The level of stress experienced by the teachers were High in Stress along Workload and Relationship with Students. The level of coping mechanisms was Oftentimes employed in all indicators. The following are significantly related: age along with COVID-19 related concerns; length of service with role overload; civil status with role overload and relationship with colleagues. Along profile and coping mechanisms, the following are significantly related: highest educational attainment and monthly basic salary with symptom intervention; and monthly basic salary with COVID-19 related stressors. The level of stress experienced and the coping mechanisms employed are not significantly related. Furthermore, the following are recommended: profile of the teachers must be correlated between and among its variables; inclusion of more stress related variables and more appropriate coping mechanisms; computation of significant differences to further examine which contribute to the welfare of the teachers and to reduce teachers’ stress; design a training program to address the need to reduce stress and to promote effective coping mechanisms; and further study must be also conducted to secondary and tertiary levels.
