Control Towers: the Key to Unlocking Supply Chain 4.0 Potential and Transforming Latin America

Abstract

The study investigates the role of control towers in Latin American supply chains, aiming to understand the benefits and challenges of their implementation, as well as their potential to improve the visibility, resilience, and sustainability of these chains. Through a case study of a relevant company in the fight against COVID-19 and neglected diseases in Latin America, the impact of implementing a control tower in its supply chain was analyzed. The results indicate that control towers can be effective in improving the visibility, resilience, and sustainability of Latin American supply chains. Limitations of the study include its reliance on a single case and the application of questionnaires only to Brazilian companies operating in the region, which restricts the generalization of the results. Practical implications highlight the utility of control towers for companies and organizations in Latin America, offering an effective tool for dealing with the various factors affecting the region and increasing local productivity compared to developed countries. The study is original in its approach, exploring the role of control towers in Latin American supply chains, and provides valuable insights into how these tools can be used to address recent technological, environmental, and social challenges, as well as contribute to the development of public policies that stimulate technological innovation in the region.
