RADFECTA-2023 connotes Revolutionizing Africa's Development through Functional Education and Technology-Driven Approaches.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are inter-linked to transform the world, through quality education (SDG 4) and this is vital to development of any nation or region including Africa. Hence, this book advocates for a prosperous Africa, based on inclusive growth and sustainable development, and sees diverse areas of education and technology as a strategy to promote socio-economic development. For instance, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity education within the compulsory level of education has recently been touted as a global initiative (Xia et al., 2022; Ayanwale, Sanusi, Molefi, & Otunla, 2023). However, no curriculum initiatives regarding this subject exists in Africa (UNESCO, 2022; Sanusi et al., 2023). This calls for review of the computer science, mathematics and technology curriculums and corresponding teaching materials in schools within the continent to consider emerging topics for youths. In addition, the status of engineering education is unknown, including TVET among other disciplines within the context of Education. This book aims to offer theoretical and practical insights into the diverse area of Education and their contribution to sustainable development in Africa. It will explore the key factors, challenges and policies affecting the field of Education across the continent; their opportunities, the state of the art and emerging global initiatives that must be considered.
This call for book chapters welcomes high-quality contributions from scholars interested in research focusing on Africa populations in a range of types and methods: empirical studies, systematic literature review and meta-analysis. The population of interest can be within the early childhood education to high school, higher education, adult education, as well as formal or informal learning context. Consequently, we anticipate proffering a holistic approach to the development of specific fields of Education in Africa which requires gathering rich perspectives of the phenomenon across various populations, context, and settings. As such, while we accept secondary studies that follow a systematic process, this call is interested in studies (both primary and secondary) that consider populations across different settings within an African country or multiple countries. Hence, a study with a small sample size within a city in a country will not be considered a fitting candidate for this book chapter.
